If you guys could chill it with the vegan bashing, you could check the source. This is old news, and the problem wasn't exclusion of animal products. The problem was that the parents were idiots who barely feed her and refused to give her access to normal healthcare and similar services. This is pure click bait.

Additional info: They hadn't even registered the baby with the IRS because they wanted the baby to be a citizen of the world.. When asked if their daughter had recieved any dietary supplements the father said: "No, nothing like that, she gets sunshine, laughter and hugs instead"... God I hope they lose custody aswell.

I eat meat and so am not vegan...but I have raised my two kids vegan so far..one is 5 and other 2..very healthy and happy...there is no real reason to feed them meat yet...you just make sure that their diet consist of all the vitamins and nutrients they need...the pediatrician has said they are healthier then most kids he sees..

that question should be asked on prenatal visits/check ups to determine if social services should intervene and adopt out infant up on delivery.

Being vegan is pure and distilled cretinism. One of the fanatic sorts. Regardless, stupid as it might be, one has the right to eat or not eat whatever he wants. That being said until one is 18, and therefore able to decide for himself, dietary restrictions of any kind should be prohibited without the approval of a paediatrician. Much like everything else regarding health. Parents will still be able to psychologically screw their kid up, but at least not physically.

I am absolutely not anti vegan but as far as I know for babies and toddlers animal products are neccessary to develop normal. I read not enough sources to be an expert but also the german institute for nutrition strongly recommends to start a vegan diet only at a certain age (I am too lazy to check, I think 5 or 6) because a nutrient deficiency in vegan babies and toddlers happens very often and can lead to developmental delays etc. I don't think raising a kid vegan is wrong but maybe don't start too young with the vegan diet. Maybe keep it down to a vegetarian diet earlier in life and then move on to a vegan diet if the kid is a little older.
